Reliable Heating Starts with a Thorough System Check-Up
Don’t wait until your heat cuts out in the middle of winter. Our professional Heating Check-Up ensures every component of your system is running safely and efficiently. Here’s everything we inspect during a comprehensive tune-up:
- THERMOSTAT – Check heat anticipator setting. Adjust anticipators if needed. If possible, check or calibrate temperature readings.
- TEMPERATURE RISE – Measure temperature difference between the return and supply. Check with allowable rise on the unit rating plate.
- AIR FILTER – Check your filtering system, look for dirty or clogged filter. A dirty/clogged filter can restrict air flow. (Filter should be changed monthly)
- AIR DISTRIBUTION – Check the air flow and registers throughout the home. Recommend 0.8 D.B. registers to help balancing.
- AIR DUCTS – Examine the air ducts to ensure ducting and vents are clean. For better air quality, ducts should be cleaned if dirty.
- SAFETY CONTROLS – Check door safety switch and sequence of operations. Also, check all other auxiliary safety devices.
- BLOWER MOTOR – Check motor amperage and compare it to motor rating. Oil if needed. Check to ensure proper motor speed.
- RUN CAPACITORS – Check microfarads. Recommend replacement if not within tolerance. Check for leaks or disfiguration. Replace if needed.
- HEAT EXCHANGER – Examine heat exchanger for cracks, signs of stress, or burn out unit if you suspect a problem.
- THERMOCOUPLE – Ensure thermocouple is in proper position. Look for signs of deterioration or crystal buildup.
- PILOT/IGNITION SYSTEM – Check to see type of ignition (pilot, spark, auto). Ensure it’s free of debris and shows no signs of wear.
- GAS VALVE – Check the condition of the gas valve. Ensure it operates properly during the heating cycle. Check for gas leaks.
- BURNERS – Check for a solid blue flame. Orange or yellow flames may indicate cracks, dirt, rust, or poor exhaust flow.
- LIMIT SWITCHES & FAN CONTROL – Check fan control cut-in and cut-out timing. Disconnect power to blower and test upper limit switch.
- EXHAUST FAN – Ensure proper amperage and operation. Confirm there are no blockages.
- GAS LINES – Inspect all gas lines for leaks. Use soap bubble test in areas where leaks commonly occur.
- EVAPORATIVE COIL – Check both sides of the coil for cleanliness. Dirty coils can cause restrictions and performance issues.
- FLUE PIPING – Ensure the flue is properly connected. Check for leaks or cracks and ensure it’s not releasing carbon monoxide.
- CARBON MONOXIDE TEST – Use a carbon monoxide detector to walk the home and check for any signs of gas buildup.
- ROOF JACK – Ensure the roof jack is sealed properly. Also check redwood pads and vibration/condenser pads where applicable.
